The Great Outdoors
Take Your Kids Outside
My husband and I are now on the other side of raising kids – ours are adults. I know a thing or two about raising the next generation, because I’ve learned a thing or two over the last 30 years and I’ve been lucky to have a parenting sage as a partner. As parents our top jobs are to keep our kids safe and teach them to work and be self-sufficient. We must teach them about health. This includes their emotional state, what they eat and how much exercise they get. Kids benefit from fresh air, sunshine, and lots of exercise so TAKE YOUR KIDS OUTSIDE!! It’s also pretty darn good for parents! Find activities that the family can do together. An old hunter once told my husband that if he was hunting with his son, he wasn’t hunting for him!
Did you know that kids are twice as likely to spend time outdoors as adults if their mothers spent time outside with them during their childhood? According to the REI National Study on Women in the Outdoors, 86% of women encouraged as kids to participate in outdoor activities as young girls spend time outdoors today and place a higher value on adventure.
